Born to a sadistically brutal Army Sergeant (that part is true) I was raised an Army brat. Trained to be a soldier from a very early age. More about the military later.

My second chance was when my mom remarried, Stanley G. Mouse, yes, Stan Mouse. Stan was the president of Cox Communications broadcast and non-broadcast divisions. So I got to hang around WHIO TV in Dayton Ohio were I PA’d during the summers.

Stan’s claim to fame in the industry are the movies “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” and the “Walking Tall” movie series in association with Bing Crosby Productions. Stan also went on to create the highly successful television shows “Entertainment Tonight” still airing nationally and Solid Gold with Dionne Warwick.

Stan’s other achievement was “Star Search”. Star Search actually started out as a summer time variety show aired on WHIO TV for years. The concept was, we held open auditions in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky to find bands, solo singers, comics, dancers any type of talent, then bring them onto the Entertainers show as filler.

The auditions were mostly boring (can’t tell you how many times we saw guys eat glass), comical (things and people falling over), then the Oh My moments when we finally found talent.

Al Masini from TeleRep was in town one day when he and Stan came down to one of the open auditions. Al turned to Stan and said “You have another national show right here.” They went back to the office, then they approached CBS Paramount Domestic Television, the rest is history. Now today we have American Idol.

Oh, I was responsible for the comedic talent. If they made me laugh, which is was very rare, they were on.

Jump forward a few years when my Uncle Richard Crenna invited me to British Columbia to watch the filming of his new movie, “Rambo” he played Colonel Trautman. I showed him how to wear his Green Beret, correctly. You can see me walking (just my back, too slow, you missed it) down the street in Stallone’s motorcycle escape scene in downtown Hope B.C.

Later on when I attended the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning Georgia, my entire training company, about six hundred soon to be airborne troopers were watching “Rambo”, when Stallone was hanging on the cliff looking down at the trees, the moment he jumped the entire theater yelled “AIRBORNE”. What a priceless moment.

While attending Sinclaire College in Dayton I received a letter inviting me to attend the ROTC Officer Basic Training program at Fort Knox Kentucky. Hey, they made it sound like summer camp, who doesn’t want to go to summer camp.

Well, I found my niche, I was good at being a soldier. I guess what my father had put me through growing up, paid off.

Okay, I’m getting long winded here, so I’ll cut it short now.

Now I’m a U.S. Army Veteran having worked in various classified operations and classified unit assignments in Europe, Central America, Africa, Southwest and Southeast Asia. Attended Officer Basic Training 1981, reported to active duty 1983 (enlisted).

Wait, I’m not done. Sorry I lied. I’ve also worked on various creative projects with the Gemini Award winning “Weird Homes” Producer John Cumming of Yaletown Entertainment in Vancouver B.C.
