I’m from Nassau, Bahamas, having lived there most of life. Although born and educated in Jacksonville, Florida and having attended the University of Miami. I was never happy in college, so I decided to leave after my second year and enter the work world.
I discovered I enjoyed traveling and got a job with National Airlines in 1974. It was great saying the slogan “Hi, I’m Maxine, fly me”. We wore those Kool-Aid colored outfits, then we became one of the big boys when Pan Am took over. Now, that was wonderful, traveling to Southeast Asia, Europe, all over the world.
We moved to the designer label Halston, luggage and all. After several years, things with Pan Am were changing fast. So, I left and moved over to the “Wings of Man”, Eastern Airlines. I basically walked into a uniform and started working as a flight attendant. How, did I do that? If you have to ask. You have no idea who Maxine really is!
I met Frank Borman, CEO, of Eastern on a fishing charter in Nassau. That charter happened to have been on my uncle’s boat and I just happened to have been on board when Frank shows up. He got to fishing and I got to talking… about myself. I had an appointment the next week with the Director of Training.
Three weeks later, I was based in Miami and flying damn near any route I wanted. A true lucky break. I was so dedicated to the company, I went down with the ship, literally. Eastern closed their doors, I was on a 3-day trip in San Juan, naked on the beach and drunker than a skunk when the bad news came. I was angry! I enjoyed my job so much.
After moving back to the Bahamas, I got into scuba diving and became a PADI Divemaster. I was just doing my thing for awhile.
Happy as I could ever be. I Walked around making a ton of money from tourist, I was selling Conch Shells for $75 and they were buying them. Paradise (or P.T. Barnum), oh hell yea!
My eldest son Michael (I have two, Jason, the youngest), called me one day (Yo Ma), and told me Continental Airlines was hiring in Miami. I hopped on a flight, met with the interviewer the same day, dressed in a t-shirt, jeans, and flip-flops. I had this attitude of “please don’t hire me” I’ve got better things to do.
They did! Damn, here I go again. Well, it was good and now I’ve RETIRED from that industry after 35 years and don’t miss it at all!!!!!!!!
Oh, before I forget, I was once a fairly big model/actress back in the 70’s and 80’s. I even worked for Merv Griffin Productions, as a guest model with Nina Blanchard, my agent.
My clients included Revlon, Canadian Mist, More, Benson Hedges, Virginia Slims. I was signed with Nina on the west coast and Ford Models in NYC. My only film was awarded in Cannes with the late Leo McKern, who I starred with in a movie titled “Rumpole Returns”. Leo was world renowned for the barrister Rumpole in England. It played for over 40 years. He made me famous as Tiffany Jones and I am forever grateful to him.
Now, that I’m back in Los Angeles, I enjoy being behind the camera. Film production is a wonderful way to be totally expressive and free.
Then, I met Vance & Bill the Bastard! They’re both ODD.
Ta Ta for now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
