Seventeen-year-old Anne is rushed for emergency transplant surgery. Unbeknownst to her, the donor is murder victim Mieko Chiyo.
However, in the days following the operation, nightmares arise and leave Anne frightened and confused. Each dream becomes more horrific and experiencing memories she believes are not hers. Her worried mother Ginny seeks professional help from her doctors.
The question of life comes into play, as Anne realizes now more than ever the importance of family, friends, and getting another chance. Until one evening, an innocuous phone call between mother and father leaves Anne heart broken, revealing that she is adopted.
Battling on, her parents are unaware of her newfound knowledge, Anne stumbles upon the idea of contacting a medium landing on Madison’s doorstep. After a session with Anne, Madison is certain her new heart is revealing memories of the previous owners past life, known as cell memory. Utterly shocked, Anne sets out on her own to find the meaning behind these dreams and witness it for herself.
Meanwhile, Detectives Oscar Carmona and Katherine Mills have fallen cold on the tracks of Miekoʼs killer until a discovery finds the murderer is targeting organ donors. With this, they retrieve a list of female donors within the area, hoping to reach the next victim, before he does.
Ginny and husband John arrive home to find Anne gone. Some of her things are missing and money has been taken from their bedroom. In a panic, Ginny franticly searches her cupboard, realizing the adoption documents are missing. Now aware that Anne knows the secret of her true parentage before they had the chance to tell her, they set off to find Madison.
Arriving at the place of her childhood, Winlow Lake, Anne notices that it is the exact area that her nightmares have been taking place. Further investigation leads her to Miekoʼs body with organs removed.
Anneʼs parents and Madison contact the police and upon spotting the Detectives map of the location where the murders have been taking place, they soon realize where Anne is heading.
With Ginny, John, Madison, and the Detectives on their way, the story comes to a climatic ending once Anne finds the home of the killer and finds out his reason for committing these acts of heinous crimes.
After pursuit by police, the killer finds himself having to make a choice. Insanity or facing the reality of what he has done...
